Version Releases
Debian 12 (Bookworm) Enters LTS Phase (2026-06-10)
On June 10, 2026, Debian 12 (Bookworm) reached the end of regular security support from the Debian Security Team and officially transitioned to the Long-Term Support (LTS) phase. Security updates are now handled by the Debian LTS team (volunteers and companies) and are expected to continue until June 30, 2028.
- Systems still running Debian 12 will continue to receive security updates, but planning an upgrade to Debian 13 (Trixie) is recommended.

Debian 13.5 and 12.14 Released (2026-05-16)
On 2026-05-16, Debian released two point updates simultaneously:

Debian 13.5: Fifth point update of the current stable release (Trixie), with security fixes and critical bug fixes

Debian 13.4 Released (2026-03-14)
Debian 13 (Trixie) received its fourth point update, 13.4. This update focuses on security fixes and critical bug fixes, with updated installation images.
Debian 13.3 and 12.13 Released (2026-01-10)
On January 10, 2026, Debian simultaneously released:
- Debian 13.3: Stable point update with security fixes and bug fixes
- Debian 12.13: Oldstable routine point update, integrating previously released security fixes

Outreachy Interns (Dec 2025 – Mar 2026)
Debian welcomed new Outreachy interns working on Debian Images Testing with OpenQA, continuing investment in testing infrastructure and community talent development.
Project Governance
2026 DPL Election: Sruthi Chandran Elected
The 2026 DPL election has concluded, and Sruthi Chandran was elected as the new Debian Project Leader. Her term began on April 21, 2026, succeeding two-term DPL Andreas Tille. The sole nominee this year, she won with 289 votes to 50 (None of the above).

Security Maintenance
The Debian Security Team continues to publish DSA (Debian Security Advisory) and DLA (Debian LTS Advisory) notices. Recent packages include incus, lxd, libpng1.6, and awstats.
